There are many modern themes that may have once been used for boys nurseries alone, like sports, that are now considered gender neutral nursery themes and are completely acceptable for baby girls' rooms. Many themes that were the traditional territory of boys will work beautifully for a baby girl's nursery.
GENDER NEUTRAL COLORS
Color schemes are important in gender neutral nursery themes.
Take care to choose color combinations that are not associated with either baby girls or baby boys. That means baby blue and pastel pink are out, but there are many others that won't get in the way of your unisex baby decorating ideas.
Some of the best gender neutral colors are shades of :
- Yellow
- Green
- Brown
- Red
If you have your heart set on blue, you can use unique combinations of chocolate brown and turquoise blue and still decorate the nursery in a gender neutral nursery theme.
GENDER NEUTRAL FABRIC PRINTS and PATTERNS
Gender neutral baby motifs in the nursery baby bedding fabric prints are as important as color. Geometric and abstract prints in unusual color combinations are popping up in nurseries no matter what the sex of the baby. Polka dots would work in gender neutral nursery themes, but they are typically used to decorate baby girl's themes.
Baby bottles, diaper pins, teddy bears and other traditional baby graphics are still widely used and can be gender neutral. The colors of baby blue and pink that are colors that indicate gender should be avoided or mixed into the color scheme in equal numbers with green, yellow or other unisex colors. If you are decorating your baby's nursery in gender neutral nursery themes for financial reasons, classic infant motifs will limit the amount of time that you will be able to enjoy the decor and the mileage that you get out of your nursery decorations.
