Baby Seamus' Teddy Bear Train Nursery Theme
by Jan
A teddy bear choo choo train theme nursery wall mural painted and designed
by Lisa Desantis-Kirchmer of Art of Walls Inc. in a baby boy nursery room with red and white and blue and white gingham baby crib bedding sets.
Baby Seamus’ Teddy Bear Train Nursery
The wall artwork in my baby Seamus’ teddy bear train nursery inspired the bedding colors and nearly every other decoration I chose for the room.
I wanted to combine two playful
baby nursery themes without filling the room with too many matching decorations. Instead of using a complete teddy bear bedding set or covering every surface with
train nursery decorations, I started with baby blue and red gingham crib bedding.
The blue and red fabrics coordinate with the train engineer’s outfit, the locomotive, the alphabet blocks, the kite and the other colorful details painted on the boxcars. The result is a cheerful version of a
teddy bear nursery theme that still feels personal to Seamus.
I used only a small amount of red, but it adds warmth and contrast to the blue-and-white
baby boy nursery. Red gingham and blue fabrics could also create a cheerful shared nursery color scheme for twin boys.
In Seamus’ room, the colors work especially well because they repeat the shades used throughout the painted wall scene. The gingham also keeps the nursery from looking as though every item came from one coordinated collection.
Teddy Bear Bedding and Handmade Nursery Details
I could carry the teddy bear details into the crib with one of these
bear baby quilt patterns. The collection includes appliqué and patchwork ideas that would coordinate nicely with gingham bedding.
A handmade
teddy bear patchwork crib quilt pattern would be especially pretty in this room because small pieces of red, blue and neutral fabric could repeat the colors from the mural.
More handmade bedding inspiration can be found in the
baby quilt pattern collection.
I also like the idea of making a small
teddy bear crochet lovey in the same baby blue, red and cream colors used throughout the nursery.
Additional handmade projects are available in the
free baby patterns collection.
Rustic Teddy Bear Decorating Ideas
Although Seamus’ room has a colorful train theme, several ideas from a
rustic teddy bear nursery theme could also work here.
Natural wood frames, a simple wooden toy chest or vintage-style train details would add character without competing with the painted wall scene.
I would keep those rustic touches limited so that the mural remains the room’s main decorative feature. The teddy bears, trains and gingham fabrics already give the nursery plenty of personality.
I love the appearance of a custom mural, but hiring an artist is not the only way to create this type of nursery.
Teddy bear wall stickers and train decals can give nursery walls the appearance of a hand-painted design without the cost or commitment of a permanent mural.
A decal featuring a friendly teddy bear wearing denim overalls and driving a train would connect the bear and railway themes while repeating the blue tones used in the crib bedding.
I hope Seamus’ room gives other parents ideas for combining favorite nursery themes without relying on a complete matching bedding and décor set.
