Swinging Baby Cradle Hardware Metal Hooks

Where can I buy swinging baby cradle hardware parts meaning the metal hooks that hold the cradle? The metal hook that attaches the body of our cradle to the frame has broken and I am looking for a replacement.

Is there a place where I can order one just like this?

Has anyone ever taken a broken part like this to a machine shop to see if they can duplicate it?

Brass rod replacement for rocking cradle hardware
by: Sandraou

Does anyone know where I could find a brass rod for a vintage cradle. The rod that I am looking for is the one that goes through the bottom of cradle and attaches to the frame to stabilize the crib and stop it from rocking.

I have a vintage Jenny Lind swinging cradle and the hanger for one end has been lost.

Does anyone know where I might find a replacement. I am expecting a great grand-baby and I need to assemble the cradle.

Did you ever find the brass hook or something similar. I am in the search too to preserve my antique pendulum cradle. Thanks for any info.

Metal Hooks to Hang a Cradle On
by: Anonymous

Are you referring to the part to hang the cradle on?

When I built cradles, I didn't use metal hooks for that.

I used 3/4 inch diameter dowels and wooden balls that had 3/4" holes.

I drilled 3/4 holes through the top of the cradle stand and the bed part of the cradle.

I glued the wood balls on the ends of two (2) of the dowels and then inserted them through the holes.

I measured for a second ball on each dowel, cut the dowels, inserted them again and then glued the balls on the end.

I put wax on the dowel first to eliminate friction so that the cradle could swing freely.

I have built five cradles using this process. Try it! I think you will find that the dowels work great

Hinges and Hardware for a Rocking Baby Cradle
by: Anonymous

I have built a couple of rocking cradles for family members. I bought pivot hinges (Rockler part 51243- Pivot Hinges) to use as cradle hinges and the spindles and bought the mattress from Amazon. I don't remember the size of the cradle mattress but the recommended measurements were listed in the materials section of the baby cradle plans that I used for my project.

Also, I used wooden dowels that were listed in the plans.

Metal screws were the only other hardware or parts that I used.

Hooks for a Swinging Baby Cradle
by: Anonymous

Where are the metal hooks that you are referring to located? On the frame?

I made a baby cradle using oak wood and I didn't use hooks at all.

The way I did was to drill a hole in the support frame as well as a hole in the the cradle itself and added an oak dowel to serve as the hinge (swinging) mechanism.

Drill an additional hole lower on the cradle and the frame inserting a second dowel. This will keep the cradle stationery when you don't want the cradle rocking.

This method worked really well for me.
