Wanted! Side Rail Rods for a Vintage Iron Baby Crib

I am looking for a long metal rod for a vintage iron baby crib. The rod runs vertically along the side of the crib and holds the side rail in place.

I am not sure of the correct name for this part, so I have had difficulty finding a replacement. It may be called a side rail rod, guide rod, stabilizer rod, or crib side hardware.

Does anyone know where I might locate one of these rods or identify the manufacturer of the crib? I would also appreciate any information about markings, measurements, or other details that could help me determine the correct part.

The crib is an older metal model, but I do not currently know its brand, model number, or year of manufacture. Any suggestions or information about this type of vintage crib hardware would be appreciated.

Jeri, you do not say what year, brand, or model crib you are working with, but the long metal piece you describe may be part of the crib’s side rail support or guide system. These rods were not necessarily interchangeable between different crib manufacturers or models.

Because the rod appears to help hold the side rail in position, I would not recommend having one fabricated, cutting another rod to size, or substituting a similar-looking piece of hardware. Even if a replacement appears to fit, that would not confirm that it has the correct strength, attachment points, or original specifications for this particular crib.

Begin by checking the crib frame, mattress support, headboard, and footboard for a manufacturer name, model number, date code, patent number, or identification label. Since this is described as a vintage iron crib, locating a rod would not by itself establish that the crib is appropriate for infant use.
