Once we decided on a pink and brown nursery, I realized how much the final look depends on the details. I was drawn to the mix of blush pink, creamy neutrals, and rich chocolate brown because it felt warm, elegant, and a little unexpected for a baby girl’s room.

Starting with the Walls

The walls completely set the tone for the room. We used Benjamin Moore Natura in Ribbon Pink, Lychee, and French Press. My husband painted the entire nursery with a cream base coat first. After that, he used a laser level and painter’s tape to mark off narrow vertical stripes on three of the walls, which he painted in chocolate brown. The fourth wall, where the crib sits, was painted pink.

The narrow striped walls became my favorite feature in the nursery. They gave the room a designer look and added just enough pattern to make the space feel special without looking busy.

Choosing the Nursery Furniture

For the main furniture, we chose pieces from the Restoration Hardware Baby and Child Marlowe Collection. I loved the dark wood finish because it grounded the softer pink shades and gave the room a more timeless look. Our glider came from Best through USA Baby, the bookshelf came from Target, and the closet dresser came from Ikea.

That mix worked beautifully for us because it kept the room from feeling too matched or too formal. The larger furniture pieces gave the nursery structure, while the smaller pieces helped make it personal and practical.

I also found that starting with the main furniture made the rest of the decorating decisions much easier. Once the dark wood crib and storage pieces were in place, I could see how much pink the room needed without letting the softer colors overwhelm the furniture.

Adding the Bedding and Soft Details

The bedding helped pull everything together. We used the Restoration Hardware European dot matelasse bumper and Italian contrast stripe crib sheet. I also added a matching throw to coordinate with the pink and brown palette. My mother in law made the crib skirt, which gave the crib a more custom look and made the room feel even more personal.

Most of the remaining details, including the window treatments, chandelier, and round frames, also came from Restoration Hardware. The vintage Barbie prints and floor lamp came from Pottery Barn Baby. My mother in law also made the initial pillow, which is one of my favorite pieces in the whole room.

I liked combining polished store-bought furnishings with a few handmade and vintage-inspired details. It kept the nursery from looking like everything had been purchased as one matching set.

Storage and Practical Pieces

Even though I wanted the nursery to look pretty, I also needed it to work well for everyday life. We used the closet, bookshelf, and baskets to organize all of the baby essentials. At the time I thought we had everything under control, but I could already tell our daughter was eventually going to need an even bigger closet.

I liked having practical storage mixed into the design because it helped the room stay useful without taking away from the overall look.

What I Love Most About the Finished Nursery

Between the painting, putting together the crib and bookshelf, and decorating the room, the entire project took about 70 hours. My husband spent about 40 hours on the painting alone, and my father in law helped install the nursery chandelier. Everything else we managed ourselves.

That is part of what makes this room so meaningful to me. It was a labor of love from our family, and every detail reminds me of the time and care that went into creating it for our daughter. The pink and brown striped walls are still my favorite part, and my husband is especially proud of them.

I love that the finished nursery feels feminine, warm, polished, and personal. It tells the story of what we wanted for our baby girl from the very beginning.
