Ocean Theme Nursery

The first step in decorating our ocean theme nursery was the sketch of the waves that I painted on the walls as a focal point. I am not that great at crafts but I managed even though I didn't use a pattern or stencil. I just freehanded the painting using my mind's eye to recreate the look of waves from the last time we went to the beach.





After I had the outlines of the drawing penciled in it was time to paint the sea creatures beneath the waves and shade with a darker blue to try and capture some of the depth of the ocean in the water portion of the mural.

After I had the shade of the blue that represented the sea colored in, I painted the sky portion of the ocean wall mural a lighter shade of blue for contrast.

After the base colors were laid in, the next step was to add definition to the painting to give it more detail and dept. To highlight tops of the waves in the blue that I used for the water, I took some white paint and a small brush and highlighted and outlined to distinguish the waves and give them a three dimensional look.

Ocean Baby Bedding

The baby bedding set that we chose includes a crib quilt with a sea turtle applique.




As you can see from our baby boy's nursery pictures, our ocean themed nursery design turned out great! The room is light and airy and the sea creatures on the walls and the crib set give it a whimsical look that we all will enjoy for several years.

After searching through all of the many photos in the gallery on Unique Baby Gear Ideas I have yet to see decor that I like better than our DIY project that we decorated ourselves. Our baby's room is proof that learning how to make your own decorations and using your imagination is the way to go if you want a design that will truly make you happy. Having creative control over all of the details along the way is a virtual guarantee that you will be pleased with the outcome.
