Free Hooded Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern - So Sweet

Here are the instructions for the free hooded baby blanket crochet pattern.  The results will be so soft and warm for baby, swaddling him or her in comfort and love and much appreciated by Mom. 

This project calls for 14 ounces of 3 ply baby yarn, 4 1/2 yards of 2 inch wide silk or satin blanket binding in the color of your choice, 1 yard of 1 inch wide ribbon to match the color of your yarn, and 3 yards 1/4 wide ribbon, again in your choice of color. You will use a 0 size (American Guage) crochet hook for this project.

Tension: 3 groups and 3 rows = 1 inch.

Chain 231 stitches.

1st row: Y. O. H. (Y. O. H = yarn over hook) insert hook in 4th chain from hook and pull loop through. (Y. O. H. insert hook in same chain as last stitch and pull loop through) twice. Y. O. H. Skip next chain. Insert hook in next chain and pull loop through. Y. O. H. and pull loop through all 9 loops on hook. Chain 1. (This makes one group). *Y. O. H. insert hook in same Chain as last stitch and pull loop through. Repeat from * twice. Y. O. H. Skip the next Chain and insert hook in next chain and pull loop through. Y. O. H. and pull loop through all 9 loops on hook. Chain 1. (thus completing 2nd group). Work 112 more groups across row. Chain 2. Turn. 2nd row: Y. O. H. insert hook in 3rd Chain from hook and pull loop through. (Y. O. H. insert hook in same Chain as last stitch and pull loop through) twice. Y.O.H. Skip next stitch Insert hook in next stitch and pull loop through. Y. O. H. and pull loop through all 9 loops on hook. Chain 1. (This makes one group). Y. O. H. insert hook in same stitch as last stitch and pull loop through. Complete group and work 112 more groups across row. Chain 2. Turn. Repeat 2nd row until work measures 29 ins. from beginning.

Continue in pattern dec. 1. group at one edge only, every 3rd row repeat 4 times. (Note: To dec. a group at the beginning of the row, omitting turning chain of previous row, slip stitch across first (1st) group. Chain 3. To dec. a group at end of row, work to within last group. Chain 2. Turn.). Dec. 1. group every alternate row 3 times, then every row 10 times. Dec. 2 groups at same end on each of next 2 rows. Fasten off.

Finishing the free hooded baby blanket crochet pattern:

Press lightly with a warm iron.

Bind the edges of the project using blanket binding.

Embroider with double feather stitching; leave embroidery open at both ends of the curve.

Cut the narrow ribbon in half and pull 1 piece through the binding along the curve pulling out the ends.

Hold the cover diagonally with the curve at the top.

Measure 9 1/2 inches down from the top of the curved edge on the wrong side and mark the measurement with a pin.

Complete a curve using pins, having pin mark at center and ending at outer edges of the curve.

Casing:

Sew the wider ribbon along this curve, leaving it open for 1 inch at the center pin mark.

Pull the other piece of narrow ribbon through the casing.

Tack stitch the ends in place and pull the ribbon loop through the opening at the center.
