In a recent project I decided to go against all modern girl nursery rules for decorating as I understood them. When I started out I resolved not to decorate in pink but was open to any other color.

However, even with my determination to ban pink completely (primarily to rail against all that is considered traditional) I began to see the appeal of a room with a few touches of pink.

Being stubborn is not an option when it comes to something as important as the space where my daughter will spend her first few years; examples that I saw on this website and in magazines changed my mind.

I do agree that it's a good idea to let your husband have a say in the nursery's design. If he wants a little girly girl decor; well, it's his baby, too and you want him to feel comfortable in the baby's room.

Unique Baby Girl Nursery Bedding Themes

Who knows, he might take care of a few late night diaper changes if he likes it well enough?

If you thought that you would never like pink in your baby girl's room, the pink and brown baby bedding set that is at the top of the page is great and I don't see a bit of lace anywhere on it. Plus, the brown grounds the pastel color and gives it an earthy look....I like it.

Baby Girl Nursery Wall Decals

When I was decorating for my twin girls, I decorated the room with as many frills, ribbons and ruffles as I could find because I knew if they turned out to be tomboys and not want any feminine touches in their rooms, I would regret not having done so.

Now that I'm expecting another baby girl, I taking a slightly different approach but still doing things exactly like I want with some input from my husband, of course.

Modern Nursery Decorating Rules
by: Amanda

I thought that there are no longer any modern rules for decorating a nursery and that in contemporary design anything goes. With that thought in mind, even though trends in color and style may come and go esthetics are a constant and remain unchanged throughout centuries of interior design. Balance and scale will always play a role in aesthetics even in rooms for kids.
