I decided to create a crochet baby sandals pattern since spring is just around the corner and it will be too hot for babies to wear booties until next fall. Several of my friends are due to deliver baby girls in late spring and will be having showers in the next few months.
Instead of my usual gift of one pair of ruffled crochet booties and one pair of warm, crocheted "baby mukluks" that I usually give as gifts, I will be giving these cute sandals and a pair of ballet slippers or Mary Janes.
I had several ounces of brown color acrylic sport yarn and some multi-colored eyelash yarn on hand that were left over from other projects and that's all it took to complete the crochet baby sandals pattern. There's very little to the sandals other than the sole and the heel strap with the ribbon loops. Speaking of ribbon, the ribbon that is in the picture came off of a Valentine's Day gift bag. I didn't press it since I plan to replace it with some new 3/8 inch hot pink satin ribbon that will look better.
The only stitches used were a chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet and half double crochet so they are very easy to make except for working with the eyelash yarn vamp part of the sandal. It's hard to see your stitches through the "eyelashes" but after you work with it awhile, it gets a little easier.
I saw a similar pattern for sale and started to order it but after I studied the example, I realized that I could make do without buying a baby sandals crochet pattern by using the sole part of a baby booties pattern and then crocheting the ribbon loops to the heel. That part took a few tries, but finally I got it and I'm sure that anyone else can do it too! They are so much cuter in person than in the pictures and they will be even more precious when they have a sweet little baby girl's toes peeking out from under the eyelash yarn!
