COOL DIAPER BAGS FOR GRANDMOTHERS

I agree that new moms should have pretty diaper bags but what about cool diaper bags for grandmothers and to a much lesser degree, grandfathers? When I am out and about, I see just as many babies out strolling with grandparents as I do with their moms and dads...maybe more!


I don't wear the same styles or colors in clothes as my daughter but I like to be stylish for my age just like she does. The notion of a diaper bag that looks more like my favorite purse or handbag seems nice since when I raised my daughters, a baby bag looked just like what it was, a bag to hold bottles and diapers. Back in the day, we had no choice but to haul a huge diaper bag that usually had a baby theme print in colors of pink, blue AND green or yellow everywhere we went with our newborns. And they were not that cute which perhaps explains why you don't see much demand for vintage diaper bags!

Now that I am a grandmother, I would like to see more cool diaper bags for grandmothers that fit our unique circumstances like shoulders that get tired more quickly and lower backs that hurt.

Another thing that I would like to see more of is baby showers for grandmothers so that when our precious grandchildren start to arrive we are prepared so that every time they visit it doesn't look like moving day! Many moms have two, three or more baby showers. Wouldn't it be lovely if one of the showers was dedicated to all of the grandparents out there?

Some of my friends are using what I consider to be risky baby gear and cribs that they buy at garage sales or at the consignment store because they are cheap. There is simply no room in their budget for brand new, safety tested nursery equipment. Parents who are spending big bucks to decorate their own nurseries might do well to think about how much time their infants are spending at grandma's house and perhaps suggest to a friend (who is already considering throwing a shower) to have a grandmother baby shower.


Sure, we would love to receive some cool diaper bags for grandmothers but first and foremost we need baby gear that is durable, safe and convenient to use like portable cribs that we can store in a closet out of the way when baby isn't visiting.

I thought that I was so smart to keep all of my baby stuff in storage ready and waiting for the day that I would have grandchildren. But now that the day is here, I realized that the items that I saved are not only out of style, but might put my grandbabies in danger and of course I tossed that ugly diaper bag a LONG time ago! I read a poem once that said grandmothers are angels in training and that may well be true but consider this a reminder that grandma angels need cool baby stuff, too!
