1985-6 ChildCraft Crib-n-Bed Model Crib Spring Latch

1985-6 ChildCraft Crib-n-Bed Model Crib Spring Latch

I am looking for parts information about a Child Craft Crib-N-Bed from the 1980s and am hoping someone might know more about the hardware it came with and whether any of it is still sold.

I believe it was made around 1985 or 1986. I have been cleaning and refinishing it for my first grandchild, but then realized that at least one spring latch is missing from the right side rail.

Does anyone know whether Child Craft ever sold that part separately or where I might find the correct part information for this model? I would like to identify the missing piece and find out whether the correct part is still available for this crib.

1980s Child Craft Crib-N-Bed Parts
by: Anonymous

It sounds like you’re doing exactly what most people do with those older Child Craft Crib-N-Bed models. You're getting everything cleaned up first and then realizing a small but important part like that spring latch.

With cribs from the mid-1980s, the hardware (especially things like spring latches, guide pins, and side-rail mechanisms) was typically specific to that model and not widely sold as separate retail parts. That makes finding an exact replacement today a bit challenging.

A good place to start is identifying exactly what that latch was called and how it was used in the original setup. This page can help with the general terminology and part categories:

You can also compare how different replacement parts and hardware systems are grouped here:

For older Child Craft models specifically, this page may help narrow things down further:

Child Craft crib parts guide

What’s realistically available today
Child Craft (as a brand) no longer supports most 1980s models
Spring latches and similar rail hardware were usually not sold individually long-term
Most people today find parts through:
secondhand listings (like eBay or local resale)
salvaging parts from another similar crib
One important thing to be aware of is that many cribs from that era used moving side hardware (including spring latches). Those designs are no longer considered safe, and drop-side style cribs were banned from sale in the U.S. due to detachment and entrapment risks .

So before putting too much effort into tracking down that latch, it’s worth reading:

crib safety basics for older or used cribs

Bottom line
You can usually identify the part with reference pages
Finding the exact original spring latch is unlikely through retail sources today
Most matches come from used or donor cribs
It’s important to confirm whether the crib is still appropriate for use before investing time in sourcing parts

If you can describe the latch (shape, size, or how it attaches), I can help narrow down exactly what type it is so you’re not guessing.

How to Find Parts Information for an Older Child Craft Crib-N-Bed
by: Anonymous

Child Craft cribs from the 1980s can be difficult to match with parts today because the company has changed ownership over the years and many older models are no longer supported with replacement hardware.

A helpful place to start is this Child Craft crib parts page, which explains how to identify common components and what to look for when trying to match older hardware:
Child Craft crib parts guide.

For direct information, Child Craft products are now handled under Foundations Worldwide. You can try reaching out to them to see if they have any archived manuals or part information:
Foundations Worldwide (Child Craft) contact page.

If you contact them, include as much detail as possible about the crib, including the approximate year, style, and any markings on the frame. That can sometimes help them locate older documentation and share information, even if parts are no longer available.

One thing to keep in mind is that certain components, including spring latches, were specific to each design. If one is missing, it may be difficult to identify or match correctly without the original specifications.

Because of that, it’s best not to use the crib unless you’re able to confirm exactly what the original part was and whether it is still available for that model.

If you’re able to find a model number or label on the crib, that would be the next step in narrowing this down further.
