Baby Nursery with a Tree and Clouds Wall Mural Painting Inspired by Nature and the National Parks

My wife and I decided to design a baby nursery inspired by nature and the national parks because we have always been fans of the great outdoors, in particular, our National Parks System. When we were brainstorming ideas and trying to come up with a nursery theme, this one wasn't too much of a hike.

The added bonus is that it is gender neutral which worked for us since we waited to find out the sex of the baby.

If you love nurseries inspired by the outdoors, you might also enjoy my updated guide to woodland forest animals baby nursery themes with even more nature-friendly décor ideas.

I had always admired the WPA Park posters of the New Deal era which not only provided jobs for struggling artists of the time but promoted our nation's priceless outdoor treasures with bold defined lines and colors.

Nursery Wall Mural Painting and Decorating Ideas

I collected a few samples that I found and bought online and they became my inspiration for the wall mural I free-hand painted. Painting has always been a hobby that I've liked to do for fun and this seemed like a great first gift I could give to our child.

Nursery Furniture Purchases

The nursery furniture that we bought includes a cradle, dresser, and glider that have a dark stained finish that came from Baby's Dream.

Window Treatments

The window valances are made from cotton fabric in an earthy shade of brown that goes well with the nature theme.

Baby Bedding

The baby bedding is a bright green color that is a nice contrast to the dark color of the crib. The leafy green is really pretty with the tree mural and blue sky in the background. The red fox pillow acknowledges just one of the many woodland creatures that the National Parks System protects so that they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Other features of our baby's room beyond the DIY wall painting project include:

- Re-purposed IKEA art shelves to show off colorful book covers which are really pieces of art as we came to realize and appreciate more and more!
- A hand-made mirror from Mueller designs that we found on Etsy
- A radiator cover that I built that also includes a warming shelf for diaper changing supplies

This is a complete rundown of the decorations and DIY projects that are part of the room design. There are a few other final touches that I haven't mentioned but you can see them in the nursery pictures that we have uploaded to share with other moms and dads that visit Unique Baby Gear Ideas for decorating inspiration.
