Best Unique Baby Names

Is there any wonder that there’s a mad rush by parents to find the most unique baby names? As we've mentioned before, family sizes are shrinking. In a recent poll many parents of child bearing age stated that the most children that they would consider would be three. There was an unusual number that felt that raising an only child would be "totally" cool and LOTS more fun than being stressed out with a houseful of babies to support.
If young moms and dads only get to name one baby in their lifetime, they want that name to be both pleasant and unique. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to come up with fun names for baby boys and girls that won’t look odd when listed at the top of their resume in the future.

So what’s the best way to come up with rare names without labeling a precious infant as being the offspring of weird parents? There are several creative methods that I have come up with for finding uncommon yet pleasing names for babies and I am willing to share my secrets with you!

CHANGE THE SPELLING of COMMON NAMES

It’s possible to take common names, get creative with the spelling and come up with your very own baby names. If you just want your child to be easy to find by genealogists of the future, perhaps all you need is some creative spelling. As an example, take a common name such as Anna and change the spelling to Ahna. This will change the name's status from common to uncommon in the wink of an eye! Plus, it only has four letters which makes it easy for baby to spell at a young age.

HISTORICALLY UNIQUE BABY NAMES

It’s fun to study historical records and come up with names that haven’t been used in a century or two. You might come upon some names with excellent meanings that have been somehow overlooked by other parents. Victorian baby names have been used so much that many are in the Top 100 baby names lists. You might have to dig back to the naming practices of medieval times to get to the good stuff. Get ready to spend some time at the library deciphering ancient handwriting or re-reading the tales of King Arthur's Court. Who knew it would take so much research to name a baby?

PLAY MIX and MATCH to GET UNIQUE BABY NAMES

Here’s my favorite way to put together interesting baby names without spending hours in a dusty records room at the museum or library. Pick out your favorite single names for boys and girls and then mix and match them to make pleasing combinations or double names. Southerners, when naming their babies, have turned the practice of double baby names into an art form. Parents that want unique names without turning to foreign words or odd spellings can take a page from their book. Here's one word of caution; when using double names be pay close attention to the number of syllables contained in the first as well as the second baby name and shout it out a few times to see how well it flows. There's no telling how many times a day you will have to say your baby's name in the course of a lifetime, so make things easy on yourself

Those are the best suggestions I have for finding creative names that your baby won’t want to rush down to the courthouse to have changed as soon as they are of legal age. Please share your unique baby names for girls and boys with other parents by adding them to our baby names list.
