Fun Ideas for Painting a Baby Nursery

So you are making plans for painting a baby nursery. I can picture you sitting in the middle of an otherwise empty room surrounded by sample chips from the paint store and stacks of dog eared decorating magazines. I would never do anything to take the wind out of a person's sails, but take a minute to relax because painting a baby nursery is not so different from any other painting project.
There is no such thing as the best colors for a baby nursery. There are no rules and guidelines anymore. There's no handbook that says that we will be labeled as awful parents or even parents with no sense of taste when it comes to painting a baby's nursery if we don't pick out an appropriate shade of yellow, blue or pink.
What we all want are GREAT colors for baby nurseries and if those colors are traditional blush baby shades of pink and blue, then so be it but I'm here to tell you that those are not the only choices for modern nursery wall decoration.

I would like to caution you that before you throw down the drop cloth and start painting a baby nursery in some deep, dramatic color. Please double check all your nursery wall painting ideas so that you don't have to repaint in a couple of months.

Let me tell you a story from my own experience as an example. Once upon a time, a baby was to occupy the nursery at my house in the spring. As soon as the test came back positive in late summer, I couldn't wait to buy my baby bedding and then to begin painting a baby nursery to match. The baby's room was large enough and had enough natural light that I felt it could handle the deep rust color. There were tiny touches of terra cotta in the baby bedding fabric print and I found paint that was a perfect match. I decided to paint three walls from top to bottom and consider some fall harvest scenes and farm theme murals for the remaining wall. It all looked fabulous till Christmas and then I saw where I had made mistakes by painting a baby nursery to last for a season rather than year round. When spring came, the fall colors just didn't seem like the best wall painting ideas in the world anymore.

If you're considering painting a baby nursery in shades of pink and brown and it works with your bedding and accessories, by all means do so and please send us pictures. I love to see peoples painting a baby nursery in lovely colors, but before you paint the entire baby room, take a moment and picture yourself living with the paint in all seasons. Moving all the furniture and painting a baby room once the baby is born can be difficult, so choose your paint colors carefully so that you can get lots of enjoyment for your efforts.
