My mom and I freehanded the walls of the Happy Hippo Baby Nursery and all of the painted designs were inspired by my love for hippos. We got ideas for the graphics from a hippo wall switch plate that my best friend bought me at our local flea market.

We started piecing together stuff very early because it is very hard to find hippo baby stuff. The hippo print lamps above the baby's crib and the wall shelves were purchased at IKEA.
We lucked up on the hippo baby bedding at Walmart and it just happened to match everything that we had done in decorating the Happy Hippo Baby Nursery theme so far.

We used silk ivy to camouflage the electical cords to the lamps. It was very effective not only in hiding the cords from view but helped give the room a jungle feel where the hippopotamuses looked right at home. I connected the lamps to a dimmer switch to be able to adjust the level of lighting according to what was needed at any given time.


I love this my baby boy's Happy Hippo Baby Nursery Theme. It was a lot of fun and very rewarding to be creative and make things up as you go along and not have a set idea.

I see so many gender neutral Hippo nursery themes and yours is very nice. But I would love to see a room decorated with hippos in pink, blue or some other wild colors.

I can see cute girl hippos with big bows or boy hippos dressed in tuxedos. If anybody has seen pictures of a nursery like this, could you post it here?

I love the hippos... the room has great colors!! Yall put lots of hard work into it and it turned out amazing!!!!! I hope he loves it as much as us and I am sure he will!!!
