Yarn, Needles and Gauge

Yarn: 3-ply fingering-weight yarn in pink and white, or two colors of your choice.

Construction

These booties are knitted flat beginning with the sole. The heel and toe are shaped as you knit, the instep opening is formed with bind-offs and cast-ons, the cuff is picked up and worked after the slipper is assembled, and the finished bootie is sewn along the back seam.

Next row: Knit to the last 2 stitches, M1, K1.

Stitch Count: 29 stitches.

Knit 3 rows in garter stitch, increasing 1 stitch at the toe edge on the second row.

Stitch Count: 30 stitches.

Beginning with Row 1 of the matching Coat (Pattern A), continue working that stitch pattern while increasing 1 stitch at the toe edge every other row until 34 stitches are on the needle. Finish after completing a heel-edge row.

Stitch Count: 34 stitches.

Create the Instep Opening

Break the white yarn.

Using pink yarn, bind off 15 stitches.

Join the white yarn and bind off 1 additional stitch.

Stitch Count: 18 stitches remain.

Note: The 16 bound-off stitches create the opening across the top of the foot.

Rolled Cuff

With the right side facing, pick up and knit 42 stitches evenly around the ankle opening, distributing the stitches as evenly as possible.

Row 1: K2, *P1, K1; repeat from * to end.

Row 2 (Eyelet Row): K2, *YO, K2tog, P1, K1; repeat from * to end.

Repeat Row 1 once.

Work 8 rows in Stockinette Stitch (knit RS rows and purl WS rows).

Bind off loosely.

Make the second bootie to match.

Finishing

  • Sew the center back seam.
  • Match the point of the sole to the back seam and sew the sole into place.
  • Sew the toe opening closed.
  • Thread ribbon through the eyelets.
  • Tie into a bow.
  • Weave in all yarn ends securely on the inside of the bootie.
