For those of you just starting out, a good breast pump is a necessity for working mothers who breastfeed or any mom who feels the need to increase her milk production. There is also the need for an efficient milk storage system to organize the milk supply to avoid waste since, nutritionally speaking, breast milk is liquid gold!

The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Breast Pump that I’m reviewing today is a single electric breast pump. When I opened the box, I found the machine partially assembled but it was easy enough to put together even for a non-mechanical person such as myself.

The pump’s control has four easy to use settings that allow the mom to control how fast or how slow you want the suction to be. Since some pumps are loud and noisy, I turned it on to see what kind of noise rating that I would give the Tommee Tippee and I have to give it a high rating for being quiet.

WHY SOME MOMS BELIEVE A MANUAL BREAST PUMP IS BETTER THAN AN ELECTRIC PUMP

This is one of the reasons so many get manual breast pumps even though they have a reputation of being less productive; they are practically silent to operate and since baby’s naptime is the best time to express, silence is a very attractive feature. However, if you can find an electric pump that operates and produces only “white noise” that’s a good thing.

One of the unique features of this breast pump is that the cup has a massaging action that is supposed to closely mimic a baby's natural presence during breastfeeding. Some of the moms in my group said they had read that this particular pump worked best if you remove the silicone shield. They had read in other breast pump reviews that the machine's suction improved tremendously after that part of the cup was removed but your experience may vary and I didn’t find this to be the case. Traveling moms will appreciate that the cap seals the nipple to avoid wasting milk and messy leaks in the diaper bag.

Other very desirable features of the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Electric breast pump are that all parts of the equipment are easy to clean and that it can also be operated by batteries making it easy to pump wherever you are even if you don’t have access to an electrical outlet and of course, it’s BPA free.

The pump comes with breast milk storage pots, a feeding bottle, milk storage lid and a sterilizer box that can also be used to carry and store your equipment when it’s not being used.
The protection pod pops in the bottle before expressing which eliminates the need to transfer the milk avoiding excessive handling and waste. And then you can use the 6 closer to nature Milk Storage Pots and Tray to store and organize the milk in your fridge or freezer. When you are ready to feed baby, just snap a nipple on and you’re ready to go.

* If you need more bottles, you can buy a 3 pack of Closer to Nature 5 ounce feeding bottles that have a wide neck nipple for easier latching, an easi-vent™ valve that may help to prevent colic and gas and are, just like the manual Tommee Tippee breast pumps, BPA & Phthalate Free.

When your baby is older there is no need to change to another brand of bottle, the closer to nature bottles also come in a larger 9 ounce size and you can also buy packages of nipples with medium flow later on.

This breastfeeding system including the electric breast pump, the milk storage system and extra baby bottles has a retail value of approximately $200.00 depending on where you shop and whether you buy a used breast pump or buy new.

I love my Tommee Tippee milk storage system and breast pump. I don't understand how or why breastfeeding moms could give it a bad review but no judgment, just my opinion.
