REPLACEMENT CRIB BOLTS

I have a crib, but the original bolts are missing. Is it safe to use replacement crib bolts from a hardware store, or do replacement crib bolts need to match the manufacturer’s original hardware exactly?

Bolts and Screws

Using random replacement crib bolts or screws can be dangerous because crib hardware is designed to fit specific weight limits, connection points, and safety standards. Even if a bolt seems to fit, the wrong length, thread type, or strength can affect crib stability and create safety risks over time.

Many parents first try hardware store screws, but crib manufacturers often use specialized bolts, barrel nuts, connector pins, and threaded inserts that are made for that exact crib model. If possible, it is usually safest to identify the crib model number and look for the original replacement hardware before using generic parts.
