Replacement parts for a Swinging Jenny Lind Cradle
by: Anonymous

Because the cradle is missing one of the wooden end components that anchors the long swing screw, I want to be very clear with you and advise caution. That specific part is structural. It bears weight and controls the stability and motion of the cradle. When an original wooden end is missing, there isn’t a safe, verified way to replace it with an aftermarket or improvised piece.

Jenny Lind–style swinging cradles were produced by many manufacturers over the years, often with slightly different dimensions, wood thicknesses, and hardware tolerances. Even if a replacement end looks similar, a mismatch can cause improper weight distribution or failure during use.

At this point:

Original manufacturer replacement parts are no longer produced for most vintage Jenny Lind swing cradles.

Fabricating or adapting a replacement wooden end — even by a skilled woodworker — cannot be confirmed as safe for infant use.

Hardware substitutions or repairs on a swinging sleep product introduce risks that aren’t always visible during assembly.

What many families choose to do instead:

If the cradle has sentimental value, consider repurposing it (for example, as a decorative piece, stuffed-animal cradle, or keepsake display).

For actual infant sleep, use a current, safety-tested bassinet or crib that meets modern standards.

If you still want to document or identify the cradle, I can help you compare styles and dimensions to determine whether the missing piece came from a specific manufacturer — even if a replacement part ultimately isn’t available.

I know this isn’t the simple "here’s the part you need" answer, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable encouraging a repair on a missing load-bearing cradle component for use with a baby.

If you’d like help identifying the cradle style more precisely, or finding a modern alternative with a similar look, I’m happy to help
