PINK and GREEN

The color combination of green used to balance warm shades of pink is so cheerful that it’s widely used to decorate nurseries as well as bedding and cool bedrooms for teen and tween girls of all ages. Here are some decorating tips and ideas for using these bright and cheerful colors in a baby girl’s nursery design. There’s something about pink and shades of green that brings decorating ideas relating to spring flowers in the garden to mind, but that’s not to say that a floral bedroom theme would be your only option.
Vintage floral patterns in pink and green with white highlights are sweet and look fabulous with antique replicas or vintage items. There are iron baby beds that resemble antiques complete with sweet little metal rosettes and curlicues painted in glossy white enamel paint. If you have some slightly worse for wear cheap wooden baby furniture that could be refinished and used in the baby’s room this is your chance to save some money and still have the nursery of your dreams. If you look at pictures of shabby chic rooms in any gallery, you will see that your chosen colors are widely used with great success.
Pick up some sandpaper, roughen the finish and spray that old chest of drawers with a few coats of white paint for a whole new look. Buy brand new drawer pulls (or spray paint the old wooden pulls pink or green) and you will have a brand new piece of baby furniture for an exceptionally cheap price that will tie in to your pink and green color scheme beautifully.
Large round painted decorative drawer pulls and coordinating drapery finials with popular baby motifs are especially cute if the baby fabric on your crib bedding set is printed in pink and green polka dots. You might even consider one of the following color schemes for polka dots to paint on an accent wall:
- Mint or sage green background with pink and white polka dots
- White background wall (if your wall is already painted white, save some time and money and bump this color scheme possibility to the top of your list!) with lime green and pink polka dots
- Pink background with white and green polka dots
If you don’t feel confident or don’t have time to learn various creative nursery wall painting techniques, maybe some nursery wallies, decals or stickers would work. Wallpaper cutouts of all kinds have varying shades of pink and green. Here’s a decorating tip: If you worry that you already have too many dots decorating various elements of your baby girls' nursery consider embellishing the dots. Take a look at some of the pink and green flower wall decals and consider using them to put together a wall arrangement as a focal point of the room. The reason why flower decals might work is that the centers of the flowers are, you guessed it, dots!
Polka dot designs are certainly not your only options for decorating with the colors of green and pink. There are fabrics in dozens of designs and it’s up to you to choose your favorites. Take the time to pick out several pink and green toile fabrics in children’s patterns and designs, floral print fabrics as well as polka dots and baby print bedding fabrics and see which one fits best into your vision of the perfect pink and green basic baby bedroom design.
