Frog Baby Shower Ideas for a Cute Frog Themed Party

By Jan Bay

A frog baby shower is a fresh, natural theme and surprisingly flexible. It can work just as easily for a boy, a girl or a shower where you don't want the decorations leaning strongly either way. This page will help you choose the kind of frog theme you want first, then let that decision guide the decorations, invitations, cake and favors. A pond theme, a brighter modern frog party and a little frog prince shower can all start with green, but they shouldn't end up looking like the same party.

Choose Your Frog Baby Shower Theme Before You Decorate

You can take a frog baby shower in several directions, but I wouldn't mix all of them together. Pick the version you like first. Once that's settled, choosing the colors, cake and decorations gets much easier.

A pond and lily pad shower is the most natural choice. Think leafy greens, softer water blues, lily pads, white flowers and a few frogs worked into the important spots. I like this one when you want the shower to feel fresh without looking like a children's birthday party.

A cheerful modern frog shower can use brighter green with white and one contrasting color. Keep the shapes simple and graphic. You don't need realistic pond scenery or a room full of frog decorations. A good backdrop, the cake and a few table details will carry it.

A frog prince baby shower can go richer with deep green, ivory, black and small touches of gold. Crowns belong here, but I'd use them sparingly. One crowned frog gets the point across. Twelve of them start looking like a tiny royal convention.

The old idea of building completely different frog showers around whether you're expecting a boy or girl isn't necessary. Start with the style you actually like and choose the colors from there.

Frog Baby Shower Colors That Don't Turn Everything Green

Green gives you the frog connection, but it doesn't have to cover every surface. In fact, I'd rather use two greens with plenty of white or ivory than try to match one exact shade from the invitations all the way down to the napkins.

For a pond theme, try sage or leafy green with soft blue and white. If you want something brighter, use fresh green with crisp white and a little navy, black or pale blue. For the frog prince version, deeper moss or emerald green with ivory and touches of gold gives you the royal look without making the room feel heavy.

If you're decorating for a baby girl and want pink in the room, use it as an accent instead of replacing the green. Blush with soft green is plenty. Lavender works the same way.

I'd also decide which color is doing the most work before you start shopping. If the backdrop is already green, let the tablecloths and serving pieces be mostly white. If the room itself has a lot of white, that's where you can bring in more green through linens, balloons or paper decorations.

You don't need everything to match exactly. You do need it to look like it belongs at the same shower.

Frog Baby Shower Decorations: Where I'd Actually Put Them

I wouldn't try to decorate every wall, chair and tabletop. Pick the places guests will notice first and put your effort there.

I'd keep the entrance to one small sign or frog detail, then spend the decorating effort where it will actually show: behind the cake or dessert table, around the gift area and in one spot where guests can take pictures. Three decorated zones are plenty. The rest of the room can simply carry the colors.

On the guest tables, keep the frog theme smaller. A low centerpiece, a lily pad under a vase or a single little crown detail is enough. You still want room for plates, drinks and conversation.

If you're making some of the decorations yourself, simple shapes will take you farther than complicated frog cutouts. Lily pads are easy to cut from heavy green cardstock or thin craft board. A few crown shapes can turn the same basic green setup into a frog prince shower.

You can also borrow color and pattern ideas from my frog fabric ideas. Stripes, checks and small frog prints can work for table runners, fabric banners or a few reusable accents without making the entire party look printed from head to toe.

Frog Baby Shower Backdrop and Dessert Table Ideas

If I were going to spend extra time on one decorating area, I'd put it behind the cake table. One good focal point can do more for the whole room than a dozen little decorations scattered everywhere.

For a pond style shower, start with a soft green or pale blue background and layer in a few oversized lily pad shapes. Add the frog to the sign, cake or one decorative piece instead of covering the entire backdrop with them.

A modern frog backdrop can be even simpler. Green and white balloons or paper shapes, a clean white table and one large frog illustration are enough. If the frog is already the star of the backdrop, let the cake be simpler.

For a frog prince shower, I'd use a deeper green background with one crown detail and a little gold. Gold balloons, gold tableware, gold crowns and gold lettering all at once would be too much for me. Pick one or two.

Leave some breathing room in the backdrop, especially if you're planning to use it for pictures. Decorations that look fine on an empty wall can get very busy once three or four people are standing in front of them.

Frog Baby Shower Centerpieces That Leave Room on the Table

Keep frog baby shower centerpieces low. That's my first choice before I even start thinking about what goes in them.

A shallow white bowl or low vase on a green lily pad shape gives you the pond idea without blocking anyone's view. You could add one small frog detail beside it, but you don't need a frog sitting in every arrangement.

For a frog prince table, a little gold crown tucked beside a low green and white arrangement is enough. If the tables already have patterned linens or lots of place settings, I'd skip another decorative layer and keep the centerpiece very plain.

You can also frame a small frog illustration and use that as part of the centerpiece. That works especially well if the same artwork or style appears on the invitation or dessert table. Repeating one good detail looks intentional. Introducing a new frog every six feet doesn't.

Frog Baby Shower Invitations Should Tell Guests Which Frog Party You're Having

The invitation is a good place to establish the style before anyone walks through the door.

A watercolor frog with lily pads tells guests you're leaning toward a softer pond theme. A simple graphic frog with green and white gives the party a more modern look. Add a small crown and you've already moved into frog prince territory.

I would carry the invitation colors into the party, but not necessarily the exact artwork. If your invitation has one cute frog sitting on a lily pad, you don't need to print that same frog on every sign, cup and favor tag.

You can use a little frog wording if you want. "Hop on Over" works. "A Little Tadpole Is on the Way" works. For a prince shower, "Our Little Prince Is on the Way" is enough.

Pick one.

The invitation still needs to make the important details easy to find, so don't let the theme crowd out the date, time, location and RSVP information.

Frog Baby Shower Cake and Food Ideas

The cake is one of the easiest places to make the frog theme obvious, so I wouldn't fight it. A simple white or green cake with one frog on top can do more than a table full of tiny themed desserts.

For a pond shower, lily pads and a few white flowers can frame the frog. For a frog prince shower, add a little crown. You could also use mostly plain cupcakes and decorate only a few with frog or lily pad toppers.

I don't think the rest of the food needs to be shaped like frogs. Serve food that makes sense for the time of day and carry the theme through the table instead. Green grapes, melon, cucumber sandwiches, salads and other naturally green foods can fit the color scheme without anyone having to sculpt lunch into amphibians.

Round green platters or paper lily pads under serving dishes can tie ordinary food into the theme. Small food labels can do the same thing.

If you're serving perishable food buffet style, keep food safety separate from the cute decorating. The USDA recommends that perishable foods not sit out at room temperature for more than two hours, or more than one hour when the temperature is above 90°F. You can read the USDA guidance on food left at room temperature.

If the shower is outdoors, I'd plan the food setup around shade, refrigeration and serving time first. Then decorate it.

Frog Baby Shower Games Without Making Everyone Hop Around the Room

You can give ordinary baby shower games a frog twist without inventing an entirely new set of activities.

A baby animal matching game fits nicely because you can include frog and tadpole among the answers. A jar filled with green candies makes an easy guessing game. You could also use a baby prediction card with a small frog or lily pad graphic and let guests guess the baby's birth date, weight and length.

If you already have two or three games you like, keep them. Change the printed cards or prizes to match the frog theme and leave the actual game alone.

For prizes, I wouldn't automatically buy frog items. A useful prize wrapped with a frog themed tag fits the party just as well and gives the winner something she might actually want.

There are more general planning ideas on my baby shower ideas page if you need to fill in the rest of the party.

Frog Baby Shower Favors Guests Can Actually Use

The old frog favor list included frog candles, keychains, datebooks and green pens. You can still use any of those if they suit your party, but I wouldn't feel obligated to send everyone home with a frog shaped object.

An edible favor is easy. Put cookies, candy, tea or cocoa in simple packaging and add a frog or lily pad thank-you tag.

Small soaps work well too. Wrap them in green paper or tuck them into white bags with a frog tag. Seed packets can fit a pond or garden style shower, especially if the rest of the party has a natural look.

If you're already making something for the shower, don't automatically add a complicated handmade favor to the list. A simple package with a good tag is plenty.

Put the favors near the exit instead of at each place setting if the tables are already decorated. That frees up space and makes them much harder to forget.

Frog Prince Baby Shower Ideas Without Turning It Into a Castle Theme

A frog prince baby shower gives you an easy way to dress up the frog theme, but I would keep the frog in charge. Once you add castles, wands, carriages, crowns and every other fairytale symbol, it stops being much of a frog shower.

Start with deep green, ivory or white. Add black if you want more contrast, then use gold in two or three small places. The invitation, cake topper and one crown above the dessert table would be enough for me.

The frog itself can wear a crown, of course. I'd make that the repeating image instead of introducing a whole cast of fairytale characters.

If the baby will have a frog themed nursery too, you can borrow one or two details from the room. The green, black and white combination used in Liam's frog prince nursery is one direction, and the ideas on my frog nursery art and frog baby bedding pages can help you see how the theme works beyond the party table.

Just don't try to reproduce the whole nursery at the shower. Let them relate to each other without matching piece for piece.

A Frog Theme Doesn't Need Frogs Everywhere

If you remember one thing while you're putting the shower together, make it this: choose the version of the frog theme first and repeat a few good details instead of collecting every frog decoration you find.

The invitation can introduce the look. The backdrop and cake can make it obvious. The tables, food and favors only need to support it.

That's enough.

And if the shower is leading into a frog themed baby's room, head over to my frog nursery theme ideas next. That's where the frogs can move in permanently.
