Let me kick this article off by telling you that using Vera Bradley fabric by the yard to make items for sale is frowned upon by the company. I understand that Vera Bradley has made an effort to prevent the sale of unauthorized products, even though the occasional item may filter through. However, you should know before you enter into a gray area that both their sale and any downstream sales are unauthorized.
But it's apparently OK to make quilts and items for personal use and I know lots of moms that have Vera Bradley diaper bags and would love to have other items that are made to match from their favorite current and retired fabric patterns. My friends who collect these diaper bags and purses would positively adore it if their quilting friends would make them a baby quilt based on their favorite Vera Bradley print but where do you buy Vera Bradley fabric by the yard?
The only fix for this dilemma is to pick up some Vera Bradley fabric remnants when and if you can find them. At the time of this article I see some auctions for small lots of coordinated patchwork squares and remnants (often cut from Vera Bradley fabric napkins) that rarely exceed a foot and a half in width or length. And the material is not cheap when you can find it all. The average price for an 18X18 inch square is currently selling for approximately $5.
To buy enough
Vera Bradley fabric for a patchwork baby quilt or a shopping car cover would take some effort as well as some cash before you ever got to the fun part of sewing it all together. But to see the look on a friend’s face when she opens her gift of a homemade baby item that is truly "one of a kind" and matches her favorite designer diaper bag would be priceless.
Can you imagine how fantastic it would be if there was a line of Vera Bradley designer baby bedding in some of the best nursery color schemes? It would be so much fun to see what I could put together using her fabrics as inspiration.
I'm not affiliated with the Vera Bradley company. I'm just a mom who is a huge fan and wishes that she could afford a new Vera Bradley diaper bag that doesn't have a big chocolate stain on the side. Vera, if you're listening do you think you could send me a diaper bag to review? I would be forever grateful and would do my best to keep the quilted fabric from getting nasty.
