This eclectic nursery contains a clever mix of unique baby bedding with animal print baby crib pillows that appear to be in leopard or cheetah, cream chenille fabrics and brown toile curtains. There’s no doubt that the unique combination of the baby bedding and draperies is attractive.
As a matter of fact, the mix and match leaves us confused as to whether we could or should pigeonhole the décor as western, place the spotlight on the luxury baby bedding or just take in the nursery room design as a whole and give the lady who submitted it a big, happy pat on the back for a job well done.
The nursery furniture and wide frame for the black and white art prints that are decorating the tan walls are black wood. The lamp shade of the lamp with the gold star base is black as well which mutes the light that might otherwise be too harsh so close to the black iron baby crib.
CUSTOM BABY BEDDING
The crib sheets and crib skirt are cream with a black crib bumper and coordinating folded canopy draped from the foot to the head of the baby bed. An animal print bolster pillow is used to decorate only when baby is not in the bed.
NURSERY AREA RUGS
A multi-colored cowhide rug is used as floor covering for the center of the room while a fluffy, cream color faux fur rug softens the area under the changing table and wall mirror that are tucked away in an offset that once was a closet.
Take note of the deep wooden scallops below the crown molding of the ceiling. Decorative gold accents are positioned at each point in the design.
The custom baby bedding for the crib might seem expensive or an unnecessary luxury to some, but the fabric was bought at a discount which made this unique baby bedding set less expensive than many ready made sets that we had seen in the exclusive baby boutiques. My husband liked the idea of western nursery décor where I liked traditional styles so we compromised by using the cowhide rug and brown toile rather than the black toile that I had initially wanted.
The challenge was to find a rug that played off the brown in the toile fabrics. We didn’t get an exact match, but it was close enough to work with the black iron crib, wood and light fixtures pulling the varying shades together. If you notice, you will see that the nursery color scheme is black, brown and cream.
