Solar System Chandelier for the Kids Nursery
My husband is an aerospace engineer (a "rocket scientist") so he was excited about this solar system for the kids room and to share his love of space with our children from the very beginning. We already have a lot of blue in our house, so I didn't want to do the typical blue and yellow color scheme, so I found a rug at American Blinds and Wallpaper that had big yellow stars, and greens, purples, and blues. It was a lot funkier than a lot of the "nursery style" stuff I'd seen, which (in my opinion) was a good thing! So, we pulled one of the green colors from the rug for the walls, and accented with yellow. We used a darker color of green for the curtains. I found a quilt print at Joann's that was yellow with small white stars, and we made a "French memory board" with star shaped buttons, green elastic tape, and the yellow star fabric. The sheets and blankets on their beds are yellow. All of the furniture is white.
This year we added a mobile from Ikea that has a planet with rings, a rocket, and a bunch of clear plastic stars. We also added the "Moon in my Room" and "Solar System in my Room" from Amazon.com. There are glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. I wish I could fit more of the room in one picture, but the room itself is too small for me to get very much in. The good stuff, the stuff that goes with the theme, is all in this picture (except the rug, obviously).
