There's a lot to be said for the love and labor that goes into piecing a quilt for a newborn, but if you can't make a homemade baby quilt, store bought is better than none at all. Better yet, pick up one of the many handmade quilts for sale in baby boutiques or through an online auction. Have a corner personalized with baby's name or monogram and take a "don't ask, don't tell" attitude and nobody will know that you didn't pick out the cotton quilting fabrics and make the quilt yourself. If anyone at the baby shower is curious and asks you point blank whether or not you made the crib quilt, you aren't obliged to answer. Just give a wink and a knowing look and let them wonder what the truth of the matter may be.
