Your baby's nursery decor will include choosing window treatments unless the room has no windows. It's often hard to find just the right baby nursery theme window treatments. I have made a listing below of the really cute nursery window treatments I've found. They are listed by the nursery theme they coordinate with or the colors. Often there are whole baby bedding sets that go with them, but if you're just shopping for the perfect ladybug baby curtains! Here you go!
Get ready for an eye popping experience if you have not shopped for a baby nursery valance, curtains or window treatments lately.
The prices seem expensive for a valance for the baby's nursery. Of course, we'll do whatever's necessary for the PERFECT set of baby nursery curtains or a cloud shaped valance for nursery use.
Don't worry, this is not a showstopper. Curtains for a baby nursery should be kept simple. There are so many cute valances for a baby nursery that you can sew yourself! If you don't have the time to make your own curtains, most baby bedding collections by major baby accessory designers such as Glenna Jean and others include matching baby nursery curtains in all their bedding collections. Whether
it's to be decoration for a baby boy or a baby girl you can find a window treatment that
will work for your budget.
Here's an example of a simple tab top valance for a baby girl's room that is decorated in a chic pink and white French Poodle Theme!
A gathered valance can be used in a baby boy's nursery decor too! Although I prefer a more crisp tailored look in a masculine themed room.
Choosing window treatments for nursery decor is not so different from decorating a window in
any other room of the family home. Color and style is always a matter of taste, but there
are a few things that must be considered for baby's nursery decor or with any room of your home where baby will be.
As with all baby items, buy with safety in mind.
Before we choose what we DO want, let's cover some of the things you DON'T want.
You
will not want floor length or longer draperies within baby's reach
You will not want any
window treatment with a cord that baby can reach
Any window treatment that doesn't allow you to control
the amount of light that enters the nursery during the day when baby is napping.
Window treatments you might consider would be:
Blinds (careful with those cords)
Roman Shades (again careful with those cords)
Roller Shades - these are a good choice if light control
is an issue in your nursery. Stamp some decorative motifs on the plain fabric of the shade to liven
them up and pull them into your nursery decor
Valances - The perfect nursery window treatment. These can be frilly
for girls and tailored for boys. They are out of the way and so easy to customize for your nursery
decor! Use a complimentary fabric coordinated with your baby's bedding or crib set. Applique your baby's personalized motifs onto the valance or stamp baby motifs onto the fabric by fabric stamping.
Purchase enough
fabric to make a replacement seat cushion for your nursery glider rocker, a crib skirt, a table topper,to customize a lampshade
or to work into a personalized baby quilt! Example: For a ladybug nursery theme you could
take a white valance you bought at the discount store and fabric stamp ladybugs marching across the valance for a
perfect addition to your nursery decor.
Cornices - Got a wood-working husband? A baby with allergies? This is the project for you!
A cornice or valance can be used to hide your shades' mounting hardware and to provide a display
shelf all in the same step. With a small amount of lumber, molding and paint you can have a custom
nursery window treatment! This is one window treatment that baby can't reach and you can use to
display baby's treasures! Use some fabric already visible in your baby's nursery theme or
decor and use it to cover a purchased cornice board. This type of pre-constructed cornice board
is available at craft centers.
HERE'S A TIP! If your windows are not as large as you might like.
Make them look larger than they are with your window treatments! Create an illusion
of space in your nursery decor with the following suggestions:
When choosing your curtain rod buy a rod much wider then your window to make it look bigger
Mount the curtain rod/valance close to the ceiling
If you have your heart set on a particular window treatment for your nursery decor that you've seen in the stores, I would
still recommend that you look for ways to customize any ready-made product and make them your own.
Add a detail or two by designing your own tiebacks or pegs according to your nursery theme. Crochet an edging or add some exotic notions to re-invent them completely!
