HOW TO DECORATE a NURSERY WITHOUT PAINTING

Lately, I've heard from many parents searching for ideas for how to decorate a nursery without painting! Decorating a nursery without painting may sound odd to some since a nice, fresh coat of paint on the walls is a common starting point for many a DIY nursery. But recently several moms who for whatever reason can't re-paint the walls contacted me to ask for advice on how to approach this problem.



One said that she lives in an apartment where tenants are prevented from changing the paint color. Another said that she was about to move and couldn't risk labeling one of the bedrooms as a baby's nursery as that would not be in the best interest of selling the property according to her realtor.

After thinking it over, here are a few tips and techniques that might help these ladies decorate a cute nursery for their baby where painting can't be part of the decorative process.

DECALS and STICKERS

They are colorful, cheap and if your wall has flaws they do an excellent job of camouflaging them.

FABRIC

Staple cloth in any color or pattern that you choose directly under the crown molding to cover the walls completely. If you shop carefully for fabric, this method of decorating a nursery without painting is not prohibitively expensive.

FOCAL POINTS

Draw attention away from the walls altogether by locating your accent pieces elsewhere. Go all out on an elaborate crib canopy or decorate the area where the nursery rocker is located in such a way that it will immediately grab the eye. Do your best to make the walls unimportant in the decor.

It's true that most decorators put a lot of effort into the painting the nursery walls but figuring out a way to go about decorating a nursery without painting is something that must be dealt with in certain circumstances. But this in no way means that we have to settle for a nursery with no style or personality since we now know how to decorate a nursery without painting!
