Uses for curtain finials of the past were extremely limited. Their primary function was to hold back formal drapery panels or to hold the lampshade in place. To put it bluntly, drapery finials were decorative items that I associated with my grandmother's window treatments and lamps. But look at them now! They are funky, hot pink and really cool for decorating a baby's nursery, a kid's bedroom.
Drapery finials have been given new life with all of the motifs, colors, and materials that you could ever imagine. Any metal finish, that you could have in mind to complement your chandeliers are readily available. There are lovely curtain rod finials in:

I mean how hard can it be to cut out a star shape and paint it yellow? A crescent moon wouldn't be a really huge deal either. Pick out a star or moon theme for the top of a lamp, then make a set of matching bed post finials, and then a pair for each end of the kids curtain rods and you've got a really cool look going here!
If you would like some themed curtain rod finials and don't really like the look or feel of metal and can't afford porcelain, China or ceramic, ask a craft minded woodworking friend to help you out. DIY your own FREE woodworking pattern to cut small animal shapes and attach them to the brackets holding up the draperies so that they appear to be curtain rod finials. This is a really cheap way to get a custom look and have great looking drapery rod finials!
