Beatrix Potter Baby Nursery Theme Hand Painted Custom Wall Mural

Beatrix Potter Baby Nursery Theme Hand Painted Custom Wall Mural

I painted the walls of our Beatrix Potter baby nursery theme a light shade of blue after sanding and applying spackling compound so that I would have a smooth, clean surface ready for the mural that I knew that I wanted to paint on the walls.

I tested several paint colors until I found one that was a perfect match for the fabric of our Beatrix Potter baby bedding.

After choosing my favorite pictures of Flopsy, Mopsy and Peter Cottontail from the Beatrix Potter storybooks, I chose the locations where I thought the artwork would look best and started to draw the basic outlines of the designs.

I used a color palette that closely resembled Miss Potter's illustrations because it was very important to me to maintain the feeling of sweetness and innocence of the watercolor paintings.

After I finished hand painting all the murals on the nursery wall, we installed a new ceiling fan and my mother-in-law bought the fabric and made the window treatments.

I love this room and I hope that Unique Baby Gear Ideas' visitors enjoy the pictures and my mural designs half as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Beautiful bunnies

You did a great job in re-creating the look of the watercolor illustrations that Beatrix Potter painted in the Peter Rabbit books. Your work made me really sad that I can't paint!

Beautiful Nursery
by: catlover

I just helped do my future granddaughter's nursery in a Peter rabbit and know how difficult it is to find cute items that don't break the bank. You are blesssed to have the talent to paint those beautiful characters in the nursery--I wish I Had your talent!

I am considering a Beatrix Potter baby nursery theme but after seeing yours, there's no way that I could manage paintings like yours and I'm afraid that I'd always feel that there was something missing! Your artwork may have set standards that are too high for the rest of us!

Beatrix Potter Drawings
by: Jennifer

Here are basic instructions for my Beatrix Potter drawings. I first drew out the characters in pencil then I used a basic acrylic paint blending in multiple colors.

I used a lot of white paint to give the transparency that you mentioned. Once I was done, I outlined the shapes with black or brown paint using a very thin paint brush. I did draw everything free hand and it took me several weeks to complete because I would get tired and have to rest since I was 7 months pregnant when I was painting the mural. Thank you for the wonderful comments!

Beautiful Beatrix Potter Wall Murals
by: Anonymous

What a wonderful nursery! Your beautiful mural would be impossible for me to paint but I will use it as inspiration for the arrangement of the Beatrix Potter wall stickers that I plan to use in my nursery's design. You did a very good job in duplicating the original artwork and I know that could not have been easy to do on such a large scale let alone drawing the outlines free handed without using a pattern or an overhead projector. WOW!

How did you manage to get the transparency that I see in the pictures? Did you thin the acrylic craft paint down to a very thin consistency? What brand of paint did you use?
