Beatrix Potter Baby Nursery Theme

by Jennifer Clark
(Hiram, GA, United States)

I painted the walls of my Beatrix Potter baby nursery theme a pale shade of blue to create a smooth, clean surface in prepararation for the murals that I knew that I wanted to paint on the baby's walls.

After choosing my favorite pictures of Flopsy, Mopsy and Peter Cottontail from the Beatrix Potter storybooks, I chose the locations where I thought the artwork would look best and started to draw the basic outlines of the designs.

I used a color palette that closely resembled Miss Potter's illustrations because it was very important to me to maintain the feeling of sweetness and innocence of the watercolor paintings.

After I finished hand painting all the murals in my Beatrix Potter baby nursery theme. We installed a new ceiling fan and my mother in law bought the fabric and made the window treatments. I love this room and I hope that you enjoy the pictures half as much as I enjoyed painting them.

Beatrix Potter Nursery Wall Mural
by: Anonymous

I am considering a Beatrix Potter baby nursery theme but after seeing yours, there's no way that I could manage paintings like yours and I'm afraid that I'd always feel that there was something missing! Your artwork may have set standards that are too high for the rest of us!

Beatrix Potter Drawings
by: Jennifer

Here are basic instructions for my Beatrix Potter drawings. I first drew out the characters in pencil then I used a basic acrylic paint blending in multiple colors.

I used a lot of white paint to give the transparency that you mentioned. Once I was done, I outlined the shapes with black or brown paint using a very thin paint brush. I did draw everything free hand and it took me several weeks to complete because I would get tired and have to rest since I was 7 months pregnant when I was painting the mural. Thank you for the wonderful comments!

Beautiful Beatrix Potter Wall Murals
by: Anonymous

What a wonderful nursery! Your beautiful Beatrix Potter wall murals really put the nursery's design over the top. You did a very good job in duplicating the original artwork and I know that could not have been easy to do on such a large scale let alone drawing the outlines free handed without using a pattern or an overhead projector. WOW!

How did you manage to get the transparency that I see in the pictures? Did you thin the acrylic craft paint down to a very thin consistency? What brand of paint did you use?
