The 2006 Maclaren Stroller brought us a few changes and updates in one of our favorites of years past, the 2006 Maclaren stroller called the Volo. The main update to the 2006 stroller is cool colors! Yes indeed, color and lots of it! In the 2005 Maclaren Stroller, the Volo in peony pink was my top pick. This year my favorite is called Turquoise, but there are four other shades for you to choose from: Saffron Orange, Carbon, Citrus Lime and Salmon Pink. I can hardly wait to see what kind of buggy Maclaren presents for 2007!
For those of you who are into designers there is great news! The Maclaren 2007 Kate Spade stroller is in the stores!
I suppose the popularity of the Maclaren stroller for travelling with baby brought about the naming of the Maclaren 2006 stroller called the Daytripper stroller. The Daytripper is a standard size stroller equipped with lots of quality accessories, but one little shortcoming: In my opinion it doesn't:
Recline far enough to use with tiny babies
Provide children of any age with adequate sun protection, nor does the rain hood cover baby's feet!
Have enough storage area
Clean easily so be sure to buy the darker colors and not the aqua or navy blue and yellow!
Have well placed or easy to use safety straps
Offer the best prices for an umbrella stroller. Certainly this one is not free! Or even Cheap! The Maclaren Daytripper stroller is pretty pricey unless you find a used stroller for sale
But...would I buy it again? Probably! Face it, all strollers have drawbacks. You just have to find one with less than the average model and the Maclaren Daytripper stroller fits the bill. Having said what the Maclaren Daytrips does NOT do, here's where this stroller gets bonus points:
It's durable and lightweight
Folds easily into a small easy to handle package
Turns well leaving one hand free to do other things
Seat adjusts nicely
Holds up well to use! No rust or tearing noted after a year or two
This particular Maclaren stroller works great, but I'm looking for the Maclaren team to work out the bugs for 2007! We need bright colors AND function!
The Salmon Pink is my second favorite in the shades offered. I just think it's perfect and matches so many of the popular baby girl's nursery themes. What they are calling Salmon Pink is almost a watermelon pink and it's just cute as can be! The Turquoise or aqua is my number one favorite because it looks so cool and fresh on a hot summer day. Plus our baby's eyes are blue and they really shine next to the icy blue of the Volo Pushchairs. Not easy to keep clean, but so cute! And blue is always perfect for a baby boys and matches so many modern nursery themes.
I had read some ratings and reviews that stated that consumers loved the Carbon Grey Volo but didn't necesssarily consider it to be a great value in its class. There were reviews and opinions from as far back as 2004 on the Volo that made interesting reading. Most opinions were positive. It's always good to read reviews from several different sources. With that in mind, I'll do my best to keep this one from being one huge yawn.
One improvement worth mentioning is that this 2006 Maclaren stroller is just a few ounces lighter than last year! The 2005 Maclaren Volo weighed in at 9.2 pounds and this 2006 Maclaren Stroller is (drumroll please) a feather light 8.6 pounds! Not a huge amount, but every ounce counts when you are dealing with a baby that gets heavier each and every day! The single Maclaren Volo stroller will hold your baby up to a weight of 55 lbs. The Maclaren Volo Twin or double stroller will haul 55 pounds on each side. My hat is off as always to the mother of twins.
Upon checking, I see that the only other change made on the Volo 2006 Maclaren stroller would be that the wheel size decreased ever so slightly. This is where they pared the few extra ounces of weight I suppose! I will be very interested to see if that has any bearing on consumer reports as we all know, wheels are most important in the performance of any buggy! The Maclaren Volo has always done well in the area of maneuverability and once a favorable reputation is established, the stroller manufacturer is hardly going to roll backwards on that, pardon the pun. The swivel wheels are lockable as in previous years' models.
The 2005 Maclaren Volo was a steadfast favorite of moms and for good reason and the 2006 Maclaren Stroller will be no different. It's performance is hard to beat on the city street, the main drag of a crowded mall and for any in a pinch travel that the family may wish to undertake with baby in tow. The umbrella stroller is desirable for quick trips that don't require a lot of equipment storage. This handy little stroller rates highly on its compact characteristics once folded which makes it a good choice for air travel.
It has a shoulder strap for use on the rare occasion that you would want to carry the stroller. I have never carried my stroller about much, but I suppose a carrying device could possibly come in handy if the need should ever arise. And it will be necessary if you travel over exceptionally rough terrain. The Volo 2006 Maclaren stroller just is not cut out for this kind of strolling. Running? Don't even try.
The Maclaren 2006 Stroller Accessory Pack includes a seat liner that comes in a silver fabric to cover the mesh seat and a carrying bag. Here they go again with the stroller carrying devices. I suppose I always have baby with me and the longest distance I ever go without a baby in the stroller would be from the back of the car to the side. Why would I carry baby on my hip and carry the stroller? Am I the only person in the world that has no need for a carrying strap or bag for my stroller? As I mentioned earlier, you will only need this feature if you hit an unexpected rough patch in your strolling adventures. The Volo 2006 Maclaren Stroller comes with a hood and shopping basket as well as the strap.
The good people at Maclaren also include a rain cover in the accessory pack. The Volo 2006 Maclaren Stroller is the only Maclaren stroller that comes without a rain cover. For my money, they can keep the carrying strap and just throw in the rain cover that I might actually use! During the winter months, there is a nice footmuff that comes in handy. The Maclaren web site has all the prams and accessories listed for you to look at.
Another optional accessory is the Wrap Around Sun Protector. It's available for the Techno, Vogue, Ryder and the Volo for about $45. This wrap around protection is not only good for protecting baby's sensitive skin from the effects of the sun. There is also a measure of protection from insects and dust. The covering attaches to the stroller chassis in such a way as to provide complete front and side protection yet the material does not block baby's or the parent's view! Enough breezes will manage their way inside to keep baby cool on moderately warm days. I have not used one on a really hot day, but I would be cautious, as it does seem reasonable to expect that it would block some cooling air circulation.
Other optional accessories available for the Volo 2006 Maclaren Stroller:
Cup Holder
Safety Light
The 2006 Maclaren Stroller Universal Organizer
I found the Volo Maclaren 2006 stroller available for prices are ranging from 109.99 to 114.99 which makes it more expensive than some of the other lightweight umbrella strollers for sale. Don't let the price keep you from at least checking it out as you may find the durable easy clean fabric and durable construction to be worth every penny.
Don't discount the 2006 Maclaren stroller as just another pretty face offering only umbrellas and Volos! Maclaren also offers Major Special Needs Strollers. This is a functional special needs buggy for a child all the way up to smaller adults.
This utility Stroller will offer a comfortable ride yet fold to the size of an umbrella stroller with only the removal of the footrest necessary to prepare it for storing in compact style! This may be the perfect choice for air travel as it will store overhead in the provided compartments once aboard the plane.
